What is Barricade®II Fire Retardant Gel?
Barricade®II Gel is a liquid concentrate which, when mixed with water, provides dead-stop fire protection on everything it has coated (wood, glass, vinyl, metal, trees, shrubs, propane tanks - and more). Barricade®II Fire Gel provides a unique, thermal-protective coating that can protect structures from burning when they are exposed to the effects of fire. This protective fire-retardant gel coating can last for 6 hours, and up to 24-36 hours, depending on weather conditions (temperature, wind, and relative humidity) and how heavily you apply the Barricade. The thicker you apply - it the longer it will last. Misting the coating with additional water spray can extend the protection times. A thick application can be re-wet more than once (I personally re-wet/re-activated it 4 times on my house.)

How to Apply this Fire-Retardant Gel?
The Barricade®II Home Kit™ comes complete with everything you will need to apply Barricade®II Gel to your home with a regular garden hose. Simply follow instructions and thoroughly coat eaves, walls, windows, decks, roofs, surrounding ground, trees, bushes and even your vehicles. Barricade®II Fire Retardant Gel can be applied many hours before a fire approaches, allowing you and your family time to retreat to a safe place until the threat passes. If necessary, the Barricade®II protective coating can be maintained for several days by simply re-misting with water. The thicker it is applied – the longer it will last – and the more times that you can rehydrate it.
Using the included sprayer and hose assembly, each 1 gallon container of Barricade®II concentrate will coat 500-700 square feet of area, and take about 15-20 minutes to apply. The area you cover depends on how thickly you apply the product, as well as, variable wind conditions during deployment. A ¼ inch covering is recommended. The average home will take between 3-5 one-gallon containers of Barricade concentrate.
How does it work?
Barricade®II provides a unique, thermal-protective coating that, in addition to many other uses, will protect structures from burning when they are exposed to the effects of fire. It’s easy to think of Barricade®II as wet, sticky sponges that when applied to a home, provide a more effective barrier than regular water or foam.
It’s important to note that Barricade®II is meant to be used as a temporary solution to protect your home during a wildfire event. After the threat of fire has passed, you should use a regular garden hose or pressure washer to rinse the product off your home. Once it has been removed, it will naturally biodegrade overtime, without causing any harm to surrounding grass and vegetation.
Shelf Life and Coverage Rates
Barricade®II Fire Gel has a shelf life of up to 3 years, and can be extended past that, up to 5 years, if shaken every 6 months. It's easy to think of Barricade®II like a bucket of paint, as time goes by, the different liquids inside start to separate, but keeping the product shaken, will ensure it's ready for use in the event of a wildfire. Barricade®II should also be stored in a climate-controlled area, that does not exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit and does not get below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Check your Barricade®II before fire season, in case it has turned solid and needs replacement.
When to use Barricade®II Fire Retardant Gel
Wildfire season is now year-round in many parts of the country. If you are in a fire zone or WUI zone, and wildfires are coming toward your home, apply the fire gel to the exterior of your home just prior to evacuation, or at least a few hours before the fire is expected to reach your neighborhood. Do NOT wait until the last minute - you want to be sure you have enough time to treat your property AND evacuate the area. No house is worth a human life!
How Long Does Barricade®II Last?
This is the all-important question, and we have great news for you. Depending on weather conditions, such as sunlight, wind, and humidity, it can be expected to last from a minimum of 6 hours - up to a maximum of 24-36 hours. The thicker you apply the gel the longer it will last. So go ahead and apply a nice, thick layer to anything and everything you want to stay protected from flames. Thicker coats can be re-hydrated several times, which will reactivate the Fire Safe Barrier – for days (I personally kept mine rehydrating for 5 days in a row).
